Sunday, August 30, 2026 by James Rodriguez

Over the weekend, Cuban singer Eduardo Antonio, famously known as El Divo de Placetas, made a heartfelt gesture by attending a performance of "Oficialmente Gay 4" in Miami. During the event, he ceremoniously crowned Alexis Valdés as the "theater king" of the city, an act that was met with enthusiastic applause from the audience and captured in a video shared on Instagram.

The footage reveals Eduardo Antonio stepping onto the stage of the Teatro Trail on Miami's famed Calle Ocho, where he placed a crown on Valdés amid cheers from the crowd. "I came to crown you the king of theater in Miami," declared the singer, who hails from Placetas, Villa Clara.

Beyond the symbolic crowning, Eduardo Antonio took the opportunity to address the audience with a personal statement: "I am proud of who I am, of being maximalist, of living my life my way, of believing in myself because I feel it and love it, of being officially gay. Of being an artist through and through, and of being a brave, privileged man."

Recognized as an LGBTQI+ icon in October 2025, Eduardo Antonio continues to embrace and promote pride and visibility within the community.

The singer's public life remains vibrant; in May, he was the eleventh contestant eliminated from Telemundo's "La Casa de los Famosos 6," and by mid-August, he celebrated purchasing a mansion in Miami with his husband, businessman Roy García.

"Oficialmente Gay 4," the fourth installment of the series initiated by Valdés in 2014, is currently being staged at the Teatro Trail at 3715 SW 8th Street, Coral Gables. The cast features Yubran Luna, Lieter Ledesma, Omar Franco, Geo Martínez, and Claudia Valdés. The production is rated for audiences over 18 and has a runtime of two hours with an intermission.

Since its debut over a decade ago, the "Oficialmente Gay" series has attracted more than 500,000 viewers, according to Claudia Valdés, marking it as one of the most successful Cuban theater productions in Miami.
