A video shared on the Facebook page "Connected with Luis Dener" on Thursday features a man allegedly caught stealing in Villa Clara. The individuals detaining him point out various items as proof of the theft, claiming he had already stolen once and was about to do so again when he was apprehended.
The brief nine-second clip captures a voice stating, "And with evidence. The proof is right there, look. He had one and was going for the other. What a sight." On the ground, a box of canned drinks and a bicycle can be seen.
This incident is just the latest in a series of similar events occurring across multiple Cuban provinces throughout 2026.
Back in July, residents of the Fructuoso Rodríguez neighborhood in Cárdenas detained and tied up a suspected thief in a building before the authorities arrived.
On August 23, a comparable scene unfolded in Camagüey, where locals captured a suspected thief in a home's backyard. Shortly thereafter, another report emerged detailing a capture following a cell phone snatching in El Vedado.
Due to the slow or nonexistent police response, communities in Cárdenas, Camagüey, Santiago de Cuba, Havana, Cienfuegos, and now Villa Clara have taken matters into their own hands, restraining those caught in the act.
