A Miami delivery driver was apprehended on Tuesday for allegedly stealing a laptop valued at $849 USD, which he had delivered himself. Surveillance cameras in a building on Brickell Key Drive captured his actions, according to reports from Local 10.
Yunior Orlando Fonseca-Jorge, 31, has been charged with third-degree grand theft for the incident that occurred on July 25 at a residential building in the Brickell area, as detailed in the Miami Police Department's arrest report.
Security footage reviewed by an officer dispatched to the building after a complaint showed Fonseca-Jorge arriving at the premises around 12:45 p.m. and placing the package in the mailroom.
Investigators further revealed that he then took a picture of the package—seemingly as proof of delivery—and immediately picked it up again, returned to his vehicle, and drove away with it.
The theft was not reported by the victim until two days later, on July 27, when it became clear the package never reached its intended recipient.
The delivery service was arranged through Roadie, an on-demand delivery platform that connects independent drivers with customers. The company cooperated with the investigation, providing account information linked to the delivery, which led to Fonseca-Jorge being identified as the suspect.
When initially contacted by a detective, the delivery driver acknowledged making the delivery but maintained he left the package in the mailroom. Confronted with video evidence showing him exiting the building with the package, Fonseca-Jorge claimed he must have misplaced it.
A Miami police officer, familiar with Fonseca-Jorge from a previous encounter, also identified him in the surveillance footage, strengthening the case against him.
Following his arrest on Tuesday, during a recorded interview with detectives, Fonseca-Jorge admitted to being the individual in the video and confessed to taking the package on his way out of the property.
He was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and remained in custody on Wednesday with bail set at $2,500 USD.
