Tragically, Georbis, a 24-year-old Cuban, passed away on Sunday after spending several days in a medically induced coma in the Intensive Care Unit at Morón Hospital, located in Ciego de Ávila. This followed a severe motorcycle accident that left him with critical injuries.

The sad news was confirmed by Idelisa Diasniurka Salcedo Verdecia, who had previously taken to Facebook to make an urgent plea for help in obtaining a medication that Georbis desperately needed.

"Today, with immense sorrow, I must inform you that Georbis has passed away," Salcedo Verdecia wrote on Sunday. She also expressed gratitude to the many individuals who rallied in an attempt to support the family during their time of need.

The Extent of Georbis' Injuries

According to information shared by his relatives, Georbis suffered three critical brain injuries due to the accident: a grade 3 diffuse axonal injury, a traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage, and a periventricular intracranial hemorrhage as described by his family.

Following the accident, he remained unconscious and unable to communicate.

Desperate Plea for Medication Amidst Shortages

The plea for assistance was originally posted on August 9. The family did not ask for financial support but instead sought collaboration to locate a vital medication necessary for his treatment, amidst the severe shortages plaguing Cuban pharmacies and hospitals.

"This wasn't just a post or another number on social media. It was about a young man with a future, family, dreams, and people who hoped to see him recover," lamented Salcedo Verdecia.

Heartfelt Tributes Pour In

Georbis' passing sparked numerous messages of grief from friends and acquaintances. Dady Dary Meneses Doménech bid farewell with a heartfelt note: "I will miss you so much, my friend. Rest in peace, fly high my king. All of us who got to know you will miss you, my brother."

Maels P. Suárez also reminisced about the young man's personality and the impact he had on those who knew him: "I will never tire of remembering you as you were, an incomparable person, unique, with the energy of an entire town." "Rest, my brother, you will be with us from the heavens," he added.

Larry Jimenez Companioni joined the comments, remembering Georbis as a coworker: "Rest in peace, my brother, the workers at Motel will miss you."

The desperate search by his family took place amidst a severe medicine shortage in Ciego de Ávila. Recent reports indicated that the province had access to only about 10% of its essential drug supplies, with hundreds of medications unavailable.
