Cuban Man Arrested for Alleged Drug Dealing and Multiple Thefts in Cancun Hotel Zone

A 33-year-old Cuban national has been taken into custody in Cancun, Quintana Roo. He faces accusations of alleged drug dealing and is also suspected of committing multiple thefts targeting businesses, pedestrians, and vehicles throughout the city.

Identified as Carlos Alejandro N, known by the alias "El Negro," he was apprehended on Monday near Boulevard Kukulcán, a major tourist area in Cancun. This information was confirmed by the Quintana Roo State Attorney General's Office and reported by local media outlets such as Diario Cambio 22.

The operation was conducted by the Investigation Police in collaboration with the National Defense, National Guard, and Benito Juárez Municipal Police.

During the arrest, authorities seized 34 bags of green plant material resembling marijuana and 17 bags containing a substance similar to crystal, presumably methamphetamine.

Independent Drug Dealing and Theft Allegations

Preliminary investigations by the Attorney General's Office suggest that the Cuban operated independently in drug dealing, with no current links to an established criminal organization.

However, charges against "El Negro" extend beyond suspected drug sales. Authorities are investigating him for several thefts from commercial chains. According to the Attorney General's Office, he allegedly used stones to break entry doors and, once inside, threatened employees with a knife to steal goods and cash.

He is also suspected of violent assaults on pedestrians using sharp weapons and of breaking into parked cars to steal belongings.

Community Concerns and Ongoing Investigations

Reports of thefts in Cancun's Supermanzana 26 neighborhood date back to May, with residents repeatedly alerting authorities about vehicle break-ins. The Facebook page "Cancún al Minuto Sin Censura" reported these incidents, sharing surveillance footage showing a man resembling the suspect entering a car.

Members of the local Peace Committee turned to the media to highlight the recurring vehicle thefts, citing a lack of response from officials, according to the page.

Following his arrest, a control judge has ordered Carlos Alejandro N to remain in custody as the investigation continues.

Pattern of Cuban Arrests for Drug-Related Crimes

This arrest is part of a recent trend involving Cuban nationals detained in Quintana Roo for suspected drug-related offenses. In early August, three Cubans were arrested at Cancun's Mercado 28 during a sting operation where authorities observed an alleged drug exchange.

In June, four other Cubans faced charges for selling marijuana via Facebook in the Boulevard Puerto Cancun area. Additionally, four Cubans were detained at kilometer 1.5 of Boulevard Kukulcán with 194 doses of alleged marijuana and 16 of a substance resembling crystal. Meanwhile, seven Cubans were arrested in Holbox with a shipment reportedly containing marijuana, cocaine, crack, and ecstasy.

Security forces in Quintana Roo have intensified joint operations in tourist areas like Boulevard Kukulcán in response to the prevalence of drug dealing and other criminal activities.

The ongoing investigations and legal proceedings will ultimately determine Carlos Alejandro N's responsibility for the crimes charged by Mexican authorities.
