Alexei Munive-Rodríguez, a 48-year-old Cuban native from Ciego de Ávila, was apprehended in Colorado following a statewide manhunt triggered by the stabbing death of a woman in Northglenn.
On Saturday morning, officers from the Lamar County Police, deputies from the Prowers County Sheriff's Office, and Colorado State Patrol troopers discovered Munive-Rodríguez hiding in a field, arresting him without any incidents.
"Alexei Munive-Rodríguez is now in custody after an extensive search that started following the Friday night homicide in Northglenn," the Northglenn Police Department announced on Facebook.
The crime took place at approximately 10:03 PM on August 14 in the 10500 block of Irma Drive, in Northglenn, part of the northern metropolitan area of Denver.
Officers responded to a report of a stabbing, finding a woman with stab wounds upon arrival. Despite efforts to save her, she succumbed to her injuries.
Family and friends identified the victim on social media as Mayle Vega, also known as Mayle Braustein, who was also from Ciego de Ávila.
These sources mentioned that Vega and Munive-Rodríguez had been in a relationship and shared a child.

Intense Search Leads to Arrest
After quickly identifying Munive-Rodríguez as a suspect, the Northglenn Police Department issued a statewide alert, describing him as armed and dangerous.
During the search, a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to stop a vehicle linked to the investigation, but the driver refused to pull over.
The chase concluded when the vehicle crashed near Lamar, in the southeastern part of the state, about 180 miles from Northglenn and close to the Kansas border, suggesting the suspect attempted to flee away from Denver after the crime.
The Cuban suspect fled on foot but was captured shortly after. He is now held in Adams County as investigations and legal proceedings continue.
Ongoing Pattern of Violence
The Observatorio de Género de Alas Tensas (OGAT) categorized the case as a femicide and extended condolences to Mayle's young child and her family.
This incident adds to a documented pattern of violence against Cuban women abroad. According to OGAT research, there were 12 femicides of Cuban women outside Cuba in 2025, six of which occurred in the United States, mostly perpetrated by partners or ex-partners.
Such crimes are not new in the northern Denver area. In December 2023, 20-year-old Cuban Sachely Díaz was fatally stabbed in Federal Heights, a city adjacent to Northglenn, and the suspect was captured in Mexico months later.
In April 2025, Cándido Raúl Rubio Pérez was arrested in Nashville, accused of killing his ex-wife in front of an elementary school; and earlier this year, Cuban doctor José Emilio Galán Preval was sentenced in Las Vegas to 14 to 35 years in prison for the murder of his partner.
