Three individuals, including a woman and two teenagers, are facing serious charges for grand theft after allegedly stealing a Hermès Birkin handbag estimated to be worth nearly $16,000 from a luxury consignment store in Sunny Isles Beach. The incident was reported by the Miami Herald.
The theft took place on a Wednesday morning at The Brand Original, a clothing store located on Collins Avenue. The suspects entered the shop under the guise of browsing the clothing displays.
According to store employee Ivan Retivov, the heist was executed swiftly and with precision: “Three girls came into the store, started looking around, and then one of them approached the handbag, examined it briefly, and bolted out with it,” he recounted.
Retivov attempted to intervene but was unsuccessful: “I began chasing them, but they managed to escape because their car was parked right next to the store. I tried to pull [one of the suspects] out of the car, but they drove off.”
The trio fled in a black Cadillac CT4 bearing Louisiana license plates, heading towards Fort Lauderdale. However, Sunny Isles Beach detectives acted swiftly by reviewing surveillance footage, identifying the suspects, and tracking the vehicle, including its license plates.
On Thursday, Fort Lauderdale police apprehended Monique Jonell Williams, 18, along with the two 16-year-old minors. All three admitted to the theft and confirmed their identities in the surveillance images. Williams was held on a $2,500 bond.

Retivov explained, “They sold this handbag to a woman for $1,000, passing it off as a replica, and she had no idea it was stolen. So she simply returned it to us.”
