Yannier Chávez Arias, the mind behind the Miami-based Cuban podcast "Fuera de Serie," shared the tragic news of his wife Wendy González's passing in a heartfelt Instagram video. In his message, he reached out to his community for financial assistance to cope with the expenses following her untimely death.
On Wednesday, August 5, Wendy experienced a severe headache that prompted the couple to seek medical help. Doctors identified a critical brain issue, leading to her urgent transfer to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital for specialized care. Despite undergoing two surgeries, Wendy succumbed to complications on Tuesday, August 11, a week after her initial symptoms.
"Everything unfolded in just days. It's been an incredibly shocking and unforeseen event for our family, and we're still coming to terms with everything," Yannier wrote on the GoFundMe page he set up.
Wendy played a pivotal role in the podcast. "She was the heart of the content we created. I know she was beloved by all of you," Yannier expressed in his video, visibly shaken. He also mentioned that he has recordings with her that haven't been released yet, which he plans to share when he's ready emotionally.
Yannier launched the GoFundMe campaign with a target of $45,000 to manage medical, funeral, and upcoming financial responsibilities. At the time of this article's publication, the fundraiser had reached $24,966 with contributions from 837 donors. "I understand this won't solve everything, but any assistance can make a monumental difference right now. Every dollar counts, even if it's just $1, and if you can't donate, sharing this campaign would be greatly appreciated," he wrote.
"Heartfelt thanks to everyone who's supported us, prayed for us, written to us, and been present during these challenging days," Yannier concluded.
The Instagram post sparked a wave of support within Miami's Cuban community. Notably, Cuban comedian Andy Vázquez commented, "I thought it was one of your jokes... but when I saw your teary eyes, my heart sank, and now I'm crying with you, brother. May God give you strength to carry on. We'll remember her smile that she always shared with us. She'll always watch over you from above."
Limay Blanco, Javier Berridy, Amanda Camaraza, Carnota, Ariel Ramos Perdomo, Kenny Robert, Alexander Otaola, and many others joined in offering condolences and support to the family.
Our deepest sympathies to Wendy's family and friends during this difficult time.
