Thursday, August 13, 2026 by Charlotte Gomez

Cuban model and content creator Carmen Rosa, known on social media as @conmenchu, gave her followers a glimpse into what a workday looks like at SHEIN in China.

According to Carmen Rosa, the experience encompasses makeup, styling, breathtaking settings, and sessions with numerous outfit changes.

In an Instagram video, she detailed that her workdays typically begin early. Armed with a necessary cup of coffee, she heads straight to the makeup area before starting the photo shoot.

Carmen Rosa made special mention of the facilities where she works, describing them as vast with multiple locations suited for various productions.

The stylist team also received high praise from her, as she described them as "wonderful" and "spectacular." For Carmen Rosa, the unpredictability of each day is a major draw of the job.

"One day you might dress up in a costume, ride a motorcycle, or do a school-themed shoot, while another day is all about fashion," she said, summarizing the experience as "a complete adventure."

The content creator also shared an interesting insight about model selection, noting a preference for women with tanned skin and that a fuller figure can be advantageous.

Photoshoots can occur both indoors and outdoors, though Carmen Rosa prefers indoor shoots to avoid the extreme temperatures that can occur in open areas depending on the season.

Nonetheless, the photoshoots can be demanding. She revealed that a session might involve 60 to 80 outfit changes.

"Believe me, that's a lot," she stated. She added that while she knows the start time, the end time is often uncertain. During these lengthy sessions, models are given a break to eat and rest.

Despite the challenges, Carmen Rosa has a very positive view of her experience in the fashion industry within the Asian giant.

"Modeling in China and with SHEIN has been one of the most rewarding and challenging experiences I've had here," concluded the Cuban model, who continues to share her professional and daily life in the country through social media.

Shein, established in China with its headquarters in Guangzhou, is recognized as the largest fast fashion platform globally. Its marketing strategy heavily relies on influencers and models of diverse nationalities. It serves as a source of income for internationally-oriented models and content creators.

The story of @conmenchu adds to the growing trend of Cuban models breaking into international creative industries after emigrating, a stark contrast to the economic and mobility constraints faced by those still on the island.
