The informal currency market in Cuba witnesses a decline this Tuesday, affecting its three primary benchmarks.
The U.S. dollar drops by five pesos, now standing at 668 CUP; the euro falls by eight pesos to open at 768 CUP; and the MLC (Freely Convertible Currency) decreases by 15 pesos, reaching 443 CUP.
These figures reflect the market status as of 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, according to CiberCuba's rate index.
Current Trends in Currency Fluctuations
The dollar experiences a daily decline of 0.7%, moving from 673 to 668 CUP. Compared to its value of 673 CUP a week ago, it also shows a reduction of five CUP, marking a 0.7% decrease.
Meanwhile, the euro registers a 1% drop compared to the previous day's 776 CUP. Its weekly decline is more significant, losing 16 pesos or 2% from the 784 CUP recorded seven days ago.
The MLC shows the most substantial percentage drop at opening. Its average value decreases from 458 to 443 CUP, a daily reduction of 15 pesos or 3.3%. Over the past week, it has accumulated a loss of 39 CUP, equating to an 8.1% decrease from 482 pesos.
Monthly Comparison and Official Rates
Looking back 30 days, the scenario changes. The dollar gains 7.5 CUP, a 1.1% increase from 660 pesos; the euro rises by 18.5 CUP, a 2.5% increase compared to 749; while the MLC remains unchanged at 443 CUP.
In the past month, the dollar has fluctuated between a low of 655 CUP and a high of 675. The euro has varied from 748 to 790 CUP, and the MLC has been between 413 and 496 CUP.
The official rate set by the Central Bank of Cuba for Segment III, applicable to the public and comparable to the informal market, is currently at 624 CUP per dollar and 721 CUP per euro.
Over the last 30 days, the official dollar rate increased from 592 to 624 CUP, its minimum and maximum for the period. The euro's official rate rose from 676 to 721 CUP, with a minimum of 674 and a maximum of 721.
