A resident of Hialeah, originally from Cuba, has been apprehended after allegedly being linked to the theft of 142 avocados, valued at $852, from a farm located in southwest Miami-Dade.
The individual in question has been identified as 37-year-old Duniel Areces-Gonzalez, with his Cuban origin reported by América TeVe.

The incident was initiated late Sunday at the agricultural fields of Brooks Tropical, located at 15101 SW 200th Street, according to Local 10.
A Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office deputy was patrolling the area as part of the Safe Summer Initiative 2026 when a parked white pickup truck at the farm's entrance caught his attention.
By checking the license plate, authorities determined that the vehicle belonged to Areces-Gonzalez.
Discovery of the Stolen Avocados
In the truck's bed, 17 avocados were found, and nearby, four black construction bags filled with avocados were discovered.
The search extended to other parts of the farm, where officers found two additional bags.
The total collection amounted to 142 avocados, with an estimated value of $852.
Following the discovery, Areces-Gonzalez was taken to the Agricultural Patrol Section offices for questioning.
When asked by an investigator if he wanted to make a statement, he reportedly responded, "Why do I need to talk to you? You caught me stealing avocados," according to the police report cited by Local 10. He later chose not to answer further questions.
Legal Proceedings and Past Incidents
According to WSVN 7News, the man faces charges of third-degree grand theft and unauthorized entry onto property other than a structure or conveyance.
Areces-Gonzalez was subsequently transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. As of Monday afternoon, he remained in custody with bail set at $3,000.
Despite the charges, Areces-Gonzalez is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
