Carlos Eduardo Espina Claims Growing Cuban Support: "I've Always Told the Truth"

Monday, August 10, 2026 by Ethan Navarro

Carlos Eduardo Espina, a Uruguayan-American activist and influencer, has observed a noticeable increase in his Cuban audience on social media. He attributes this rise to a shift in how his warnings about the Republican Party and its immigration policies are perceived by the Cuban community.

"Cubans are rallying around me, following in large numbers. Why? Because I've always been truthful with them," Espina stated in a Facebook video. He shared statistics in the video, indicating a steady growth in Cuban followers.

The video has surpassed 155,000 views and gathered nearly 9,000 positive reactions.

The Controversial Relationship with the Cuban Community

Espina, who boasts over 20 million followers across various platforms, used this opportunity to revisit past controversies with segments of the Cuban community in the United States.

He recalled being labeled a communist by some Cubans due to his vehement criticism of Donald Trump and his outspoken disapproval of Republican figures like Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar and Senator Marco Rubio, whom he again called "charlatans."

"Down with dictatorship, down with communism. I'm not a communist; I'm just a realist," Espina asserted.

The influencer argued that the immigration policies under the Trump administration validated the warnings he had been issuing for years.

Criticism of Republican Immigration Policies

"What has María Elvira Salazar done for you? What has Marco Rubio done for you? They've taken away parole, status, protections, deported you, separated families," he claimed.

Espina's comments reflect his political perspective on the immigration measures enacted by the Trump administration and the accountability he assigns to these Republican leaders.

He highlighted the humanitarian parole program instituted during Joe Biden's presidency for citizens of Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela, which was later rescinded under Trump.

"How many of you waited for your relatives at the Miami airport with the humanitarian parole? How many of you felt fear? None, because they were welcomed and loved," he expressed.

Espina also endorsed the Democratic Party as a more favorable option for immigrants, while acknowledging it too requires reforms.

"It's not that Democrats are perfect, but they're the way forward. Some changes are needed," he noted.

Ongoing Debates and Reactions

Espina's interactions with the Cuban community have been fraught with numerous controversies on social media.

He went viral in September 2023 after claiming that many Latin Americans resented Cubans in the United States, arguing that some Cubans supported politicians with restrictive immigration stances while seeking protection for themselves.

In March 2025, he engaged in a public dispute with a Cuban making derogatory remarks about Mexicans. A year later, he sparked another debate questioning why flights to Cuba remained full amid protests and the island's severe crisis.

His recent message hasn't gone unnoticed.

Many Cubans have shown their support. "I'm Cuban, living in Cuba, and I love you. I follow you and watch whenever I can," a user commented.

Yet, skepticism remains among others.

"I'm not convinced. He supported Cubanophobia and the hatred and envy towards Cubans in the U.S. He's just trying to clean up his image," criticized another user.

Espina, however, chose to close his video by moving past conflicts and extending an olive branch to those who now engage with his content.

"Thank you to the Cubans supporting me today. I know we've had our tough times, but now we're moving forward," he concluded.
