An Instagram user known as @daris_latin made an unexpected return to Cuba despite previously vowing never to go back. Her mission was heartfelt: to surprise her mother, whom she hadn't seen in years, and celebrate her birthday together. However, the moment she left the airport, she was faced with unforeseen challenges.
In a video she posted on social media, which has garnered over 1,600 reactions, she explained that the trip was meticulously planned in secret. She even misled her family into thinking she was heading to Las Vegas for the occasion, while her true destination was Cuba.
"I returned to Cuba after swearing I wouldn't. I've spent sleepless nights planning this trip. It was pure madness, but I wanted to celebrate my birthday alongside my mom because it's been so long since I saw her, and I needed to hold her," she shared.
The joy of reuniting was quickly overshadowed by the harsh realities on the island. The rental car they picked up was supposed to have a full tank, yet it barely had enough gas to travel a few miles.
"We had to pay five dollars for just two liters of gas to reach a so-called Mipyme where we could fill up, and in the end, Darián had to push the car to get there," the young woman recounted.
Their journey was aimed at reaching Quivicán in the province of Mayabeque, where her mother and grandparents awaited them. For Darián, her partner, this trip was also significant as he hadn’t seen his family in seven years.
Fuel Crisis Worsens in Cuba
