Dream Come True: Dainer Receives the Bicycle He Longed For to Attend School

Thursday, July 30, 2026 by Henry Cruz

A 12-year-old boy named Dainer from Bahía Honda, located in Artemisa Province, has captured the hearts of many. His story went viral after videos showed him running barefoot and climbing palm trees over 20 meters tall to support his family. On Wednesday, Dainer's dream came true when he received the bicycle he needed to attend school.

The gift was presented by Cuban influencer Yeison López (@hermandadtmph), who also brought the young boy a pair of Nike sneakers and provided financial assistance to his family.

The emotional moment was shared in a video on Instagram, where López's followers quickly showed their support. The post garnered over 48,000 likes and 1,300 comments.

"For many years, I dreamed of returning to my country, my neighborhood, and my people as a man who can inspire the youth growing under similar circumstances, a man who can offer help and hope," López expressed.

A Promise Kept with a New Ride

The bicycle, a sleek black CONCORDE with red accents, complete with disc brakes and a sporty handlebar, will allow Dainer to travel to his school, located in the rural Montaña area, with ease. Previously, he had to make the journey on foot.

In addition to the bicycle, López surprised Dainer and his sister with Nike sneakers and offered the family monetary support, a gesture warmly received by those present.

Words That Touched Many Hearts

The tale of Dainer began to spread across social media in mid-July when Yeison López met him during a morning run. Dainer followed him barefoot throughout the route, and upon speaking with him, López learned that the boy couldn't attend school regularly due to transportation issues.

One of the video’s most touching moments was when Dainer said, "I can go by bicycle, but I don’t have one. I wish I did."

His words resonated with thousands both within and outside of Cuba.

On July 27, López shared Dainer's story and challenged his 600,000 followers: if the video reached 100,000 likes, he would purchase the bicycle that week. However, he later admitted that he had already bought it before posting the challenge.

"To be honest, the bike was purchased before making this video. But amidst all the meaningless content on social media, I wanted to give you the chance to be part of this through your likes and interactions, to make you feel as if you were the ones gifting the bike," he confessed.

A Young Boy Already Familiar to Social Media

Dainer had already caught the attention of the influencer’s audience. On July 18, a reel featuring him surpassed 450,000 views and 140,000 likes, showing him climbing towering palm trees with makeshift ropes to harvest palm nuts from early in the morning.

His grandmother, who cares for Dainer and his sister, described him as a hardworking and responsible child.

"Daini, my grandson, is incredibly good. He works with people and all. What I always tell him is that he must keep hustling," she stated.

A Story That Extends Beyond a Bicycle

Dainer's story highlights a reality faced by many Cuban families: children who take on adult responsibilities due to economic hardships, contributing to their household’s survival.

The situation also reignited discussions about child welfare in Cuba. The Cuban Conflict Observatory reported 71 complaints related to child labor in 2025, while the government acknowledged that nearly 200,000 minors are in vulnerable conditions.

In closing his post, Yeison López encapsulated the significance of fulfilling the promise made to Dainer.

"I've experienced many things over the years, but none as fulfilling as this. I hope and wish that all of you can experience that feeling at some point," he concluded.
