Cuban Actor from "Vivir del Cuento" Finds New Role in U.S. Restaurant: "I've Been Here for Three Years"

Thursday, July 30, 2026 by Daniel Colon

Tomás Torres, the Cuban actor who brought to life the beloved character "El Cartero" in the show Vivir del Cuento, is now working in the kitchen of Pinecrest Bakery, a Cuban-American bakery chain in Miami. On weekends, he takes the stage at Guayaba Restaurant.

Torres himself confirmed this in a video shared by Pinecrest Bakery on Instagram, where he recounted his journey from Cuban television screens to the kitchens of South Florida.

"In Cuba, I was an actor on one of the biggest and most beautiful shows on Cuban television, which was Vivir del Cuento. I played a character who was the postman, always delivering both good and bad news," the actor reminisced in the video.

Having lived in the United States for three years, Torres expresses satisfaction with his new life, which blends culinary work with artistic performances.

"I've been here in the United States for three years, and I'm very happy because it has given me the opportunity to cook and also perform my shows, which I am doing at Guayaba Restaurant," he stated.

About his colleagues at the bakery, Torres was enthusiastic: "I feel super happy with the team, they help a lot, they help a lot, I have to say it from the bottom of my heart."

Pinecrest Bakery introduced him as an artist who "prepares each dish with heart" and highlighted that his story shows "true talent never fades, it just finds new ways to inspire."

Vivir del Cuento was the most popular series on Cuban television, airing on Cubavisión from September 14, 2008, until September 16, 2024, spanning 19 seasons and 516 episodes.

Torres' case adds to a trend seen in recent years among the show's cast members. Andy Vázquez, who played Facundo, settled in Miami in 2019, while Omar Franco, the popular Ruperto, moved to the U.S. in July 2021.

More recently, Marlon Pijuán, known for his role as Isidoro, shared details of his arrival in the U.S. in October 2024, and Wilber Gutiérrez, remembered as Chacón, arrived in the country on January 9, 2025.

The post by Pinecrest Bakery garnered over 29,000 reactions and 371 comments, reflecting the affection the Cuban audience still holds for the actors of the series that humorously portrayed the daily struggles of life on the island for years.
