In an official statement, the hospital's Management Council described the event as a "regrettable incident," noting that the group entered the medical area without proper authorization, disrupting the service's normal operations and creating a tense situation that impacted healthcare staff and endangered the delivery of medical care.

This incident comes amid increasing tension in Cuban pediatric hospitals, exacerbated by a severe healthcare system crisis.
On July 21, a mother reported a cockroach infestation at the same hospital while her daughter was admitted, an issue persisting since at least 2023.
Just days earlier, on July 20, the Spanish NGO Open Arms donated solar panels, batteries, an ultrasound machine, and medical supplies to the hospital to provide energy autonomy to the ICU, addressing frequent power outages affecting the center.
Elsewhere, the situation is similarly dire: the generator at Camagüey’s Pediatric Hospital caught fire on July 10, resulting in reduced power supply. In June, unauthorized vendors were reportedly operating within pediatric hospital wards.
The Juan Manuel Márquez hospital’s statement closes with a call for trust in the institutions: "The protection of patients, their families, and workers is a priority. Therefore, we trust that the competent authorities will conduct the necessary investigations to clarify what happened and act according to the current legislation."
