The Viento Recio Ministry, an evangelical church located in the Buena Vista neighborhood of Las Tunas, has revealed plans to host a substantial breakfast event aimed at serving between 400 and 500 individuals facing hardship. The church's leader, Apostle Mayim Jorge, announced the event on Facebook, where he also highlighted the ongoing weekly efforts of the church: free breakfasts on Mondays and Tuesdays, and lunches on Wednesdays, accommodating around 500 people weekly.
"We are announcing an upcoming giant breakfast for 400 or 500 people in need. Invitations will be extended accordingly," wrote Mayim Jorge, describing the recipients as a "famished and ailing population" who find their "best meals of the week" at the church.
Addressing potential skepticism over the funding, the religious leader clarified, "The resources do not come from drugs, exile organizations, or the American embassy. They come from the church. Many are contributing because they know we use it to help others and glorify the Lord."
Located at Eduardo Martínez Street No. 34, between Camilo Cienfuegos and Juan Espinosa, the congregation serves as a beacon of aid, as noted by Mayim Jorge in his comments.
"All glory to my God, for in times of extreme scarcity, He blesses us to support this famished and ailing population," Mayim Jorge concluded in his post.
Volunteers begin food preparation at 4 a.m., and earlier this month, they served lunch to 190 vulnerable individuals, also preparing additional portions for the homeless.
The apostle remarked that the attendees now include not only the elderly but also children and youth, highlighting the worsening hunger crisis both in the province and across the island.
This endeavor has faced challenges from the regime. In June, for instance, Cuban authorities barred the Viento Recio Ministry from continuing a breakfast program for pregnant women in a maternal home in Las Tunas, requiring Communist Party approval for each food distribution.
