Ottawa County Prosecutor, Clint Ward, stated that Morales Marín's statements were riddled with contradictions during interrogation. "At first, he claimed the girl was his cousin, then later said she was his girlfriend," Ward explained.
Court documents revealed that the suspect attempted to justify the situation by stating, "I am married, but in Cuba, it's common for a man to be married and have seven girlfriends." Ward also confirmed that neither Morales Marín nor the teenager spoke English fluently, and both had illegally entered the United States.
The minor was placed under protection and transferred to an undisclosed international youth center in southern Oklahoma.
