A Carnival Cruise Line passenger became the center of a viral storm after being recorded using a dining room fork to scratch her bare foot, which reportedly had a fungal infection.
As flakes of skin fell to the floor, stunned fellow diners looked on. The woman then nonchalantly placed the fork back on her table as if nothing unusual had happened.
The six-part video series, shared by the Instagram account @lucky_charmedcourt, has amassed over 28 million views and triggered a wave of social media outrage.
Initial clips show the woman scratching her foot with her hands before grabbing a restaurant fork to continue. The later videos show passengers who filmed the incident presenting the footage to the ship's captain.
The Carnival Sunrise Incident
The event reportedly took place aboard the Carnival Sunrise, according to the cruise-focused website CruiseHive, although this has not been officially confirmed. The ship was on a five-day Caribbean journey that departed from Miami on Monday, July 20, with scheduled stops at Celebration Key, Princess Cays, and Nassau in the Bahamas.
Carnival's Swift Response
On July 22, Carnival reacted by posting a statement on their official Instagram account, blending firmness with humor: "Forks are meant for food, not foot care."
In the same message, the company described the measures taken: "Once we became aware of the situation, our team addressed it promptly with the passenger and removed the utensil from service."
The statement also included a playful jab: the word "feet" was humorously crossed out and replaced with "fleet," directly referencing the incident.
Nevertheless, the tone was clear: "Cleanliness and hygiene are no joke to us. Our crew works diligently every day to uphold high standards across our fleet and to ensure all guests enjoy safe, clean, and comfortable vacations."
The official Carnival post garnered over 32,600 likes on Instagram. The original video depicting the fork misuse has accumulated more than 9 million views, 118,000 likes, and 58,000 comments on the same platform.
Public reactions in the comments ranged from disgust to laughter. One user quipped, "POV: You can afford a Carnival cruise but not antifungal cream or your own scratching tool."
Another added, "This is why I eat with plastic utensils." A third was more graphic: "Dead skin cells flying everywhere."
This incident is not the first to involve Carnival passengers in recent months. In June, a brutal fight between passengers on the Carnival Conquest was recorded and went viral.
In August 2025, another altercation aboard the Carnival Sunshine reportedly erupted due to a buffet dispute.
The fork involved in the incident has been permanently removed from service, according to Carnival.
