Young Cuban Woman Fulfills Dream of Buying New Home for Grandparents: "Their Joy Makes It All Worthwhile"

A young Cuban woman from Matanzas has achieved her dream of selling the house she shared with her grandparents to buy them a new, more spacious home situated on flat ground. This heartfelt moment was captured in a video shared last Friday on TikTok by Lauren Lotti (@laurenlotti5), a content creator around the age of 16, who has been chronicling her family's day-to-day life on the island for months.

In the video, Lauren explains her motivation: "As many of you know, we lived on a very steep hill, which became increasingly difficult for my grandparents to climb due to their age. My greatest goal in life has always been to provide them comfort and give back just a little of the immense love they've given me."

Although the new house requires some renovations, it offers a private room for her grandparents and is located in a flat area. "This is a bigger house, a comfortable and level place where they won't have to exhaust themselves. We'll put our hearts into making it beautiful," Lauren stated in the video.

Her grandmother appeared visibly moved by the surprise. "I never imagined having such a large and comfortable house. It feels like I'm dreaming," she expressed, offering thanks to everyone who contributed to making this dream a reality.

Lauren acknowledged that their achievement would not have been possible without the support of her online community: "Without your support, none of this would have been possible." Her audience is primarily based outside of Cuba, in countries such as Spain, the United States, Venezuela, and the Dominican Republic.

This isn't the first time the young woman from Matanzas has turned the support of her followers into tangible help for her family. In May, Lauren fulfilled another of her grandfather's dreams by purchasing a vise—a workshop tool—for 20,000 Cuban pesos (approximately $40) through donations from her followers. In June, she showcased an artisanal oven her father built to sell pizzas, a video that garnered over 247,200 views. Earlier this month, she documented enduring 80 hours without electricity or water at her home.

The Rise of Social Media Support in Cuba

Lauren's story is part of a broader trend among young Cubans using social media to enhance their families' living conditions. In May, an 18-year-old Cuban TikToker bought his first home on the island for $2,500, thanks to his earnings as a content creator. In October 2025, another young woman acquired a house for $4,000 with the backing of her followers.

These types of transactions have become more feasible in recent years, as the Cuban real estate market has dropped between 50% and 60% in prices compared to 2018-2019, driven by the economic crisis and the exodus of nearly two million Cubans since 2021. Homes in peripheral areas can be purchased for between $2,500 and $5,000, although the official housing deficit in Cuba exceeds 900,000 units, and building materials remain costly in the informal market.

"Dreams do come true when love is the driving force," Lauren wrote in the video's description, which amassed over 288,000 views and nearly 56,000 likes in less than three days.
