On Friday night, residents of Dolores Street in Lawton, part of Havana’s Diez de Octubre municipality, engaged in a noisy protest by banging pots and setting trash ablaze in the street. The demonstration spread along various spots of the street, sparked by the extended power outages suffocating the area.
Journalist José Raúl Gallego shared a nighttime video on Facebook depicting intense flames on the roadway, thick smoke, and the flashing blue lights of emergency or police vehicles, captured roughly 30 minutes before it was posted.
As the locals voiced their frustration, a witness informed Gallego of the movement of a convoy of military and police vehicles, colloquially known as "el combo," heading down Calzada de Diez de Octubre towards Dolores Street. This convoy originated from the command post located in Santos Suárez Park.
These vehicles were transporting police officers and special troops whose purpose is to suppress protests and arrest those involved.
