Two children, aged four and six, who had wandered away from their home without anyone noticing, were found alive on Monday in the town of Mabay, located in the Bayamo municipality of Granma province. Their disappearance had kept the entire community on edge during the hours-long search.

The children vanished from Batey del Medio, a rural area known for its vast sugarcane fields associated with the local sugar industry.

As soon as their disappearance was reported, authorities launched a search operation involving police officers, firefighters, members of the Special Brigade of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), and a tracking dog, according to Lipsi Lianet Batista.

Teams scoured areas of dense vegetation and waterways in the locality for hours until the children were discovered within a sugarcane field in the vicinity.

The reunion with their families, as shared in a social media post, brought "tears of relief not only to their loved ones but to every firefighter, police officer, and neighbor who never lost hope."

The author of the post used the happy outcome to send a message to Cuban families: "Parents, grandparents, and guardians, let's not take our eyes off our children for even a second," warning that during the summer vacation months, when children have more free time and greater mobility, their natural curiosity might lead them into dangerous situations.

This incident adds to a series of child disappearances reported in eastern Cuba over recent months.

In April, a child reported missing in Bayamo was found deceased, yet authorities did not release any official statement about the case.

During the same month, a two-year-old boy went missing in Guantánamo and was found alive days later. Meanwhile, a 12-year-old disappeared in Santiago de Cuba on the 17th of that month and was also found safe.
