Leisnier Mauri Garcia, aged 40, was apprehended in Miami on Thursday on charges of attempted murder after allegedly stabbing his girlfriend 34 times on Sunday night. This violent act occurred just moments after she informed him of her desire to end their relationship.

According to the Miami Police Department's arrest report, as cited by Local 10 News, the incident transpired around 11:50 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, in the Coral Gate neighborhood, specifically in the 3400 block of Southwest 16th Terrace, which aligns with the registered address of the accused.

The sequence of events unfolded as the couple was en route to a restaurant. Garcia noticed a text message on his girlfriend's phone, sent by the father of her child, which incited an argument. It was during this confrontation that the victim expressed her intention to break up.

Details of the Assault

Following the altercation, they proceeded to an Airbnb to gather their belongings. Upon returning to the vehicle, Garcia claimed he had forgotten something inside and re-entered the premises.

Upon his return to the car, Garcia insisted on sitting in the back seat—an unusual behavior, as he typically sat in the front. What followed was documented in the police report: "Without warning, (Garcia) retrieved a knife from the back seat and began stabbing her repeatedly in the back. The victim immediately opened the driver’s door in an attempt to escape the attack, managing to exit the vehicle while pleading with (Garcia) to stop."

The woman sustained 34 stab wounds, primarily to the upper body, with ten of them located on her neck. She was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital for medical treatment.

Background of the Relationship

The victim informed investigators that their relationship, which began in December 2025, was "generally good," though she admitted that Garcia "occasionally became aggressive" toward her. She also mentioned that this was not the first instance of violence; during a previous breakup lasting about two months, he had also attempted to assault her.

Garcia's Arrest and Legal History

Garcia was located by police on Thursday shortly before 2 p.m. in the area of Northwest Fourth Terrace and 36th Court in Little Havana. He exhibited cuts on his hands and was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital before being placed under custody. He refused to cooperate with investigators.

This is not Garcia's first encounter with the law. According to Broward County arrest records, he was detained in August 2025 on charges of grand theft between $750 and $5,000, forgery of public records, and fraud, with bonds set at $2,500 for each charge.

Such violent acts against romantic partners are alarmingly common in the Miami metropolitan area. In prior incidents, a Cuban man in Miami was detained for assaulting his ex-girlfriend under similar circumstances, and another man was arrested in Hialeah for attacking his girlfriend with a bat in the presence of a minor.

Garcia is currently held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, awaiting a bond hearing, as per Miami-Dade County records.
