Surveillance Video Captures Deadly Explosion at Miami-Dade Facility

Wednesday, June 17, 2026 by Elizabeth Alvarado

A surveillance video has documented the precise moment a massive fireball erupted through the roof of a Miami-Dade Fire Rescue logistics facility on Monday morning. This tragic incident resulted in one fatality and left four others injured in the southwestern part of the county.

The footage also reveals a person sprinting away from the powerful blast, which was so intense that it created a hole in the structure's canopy and caused nearby homes to shake.

Details of the Incident

The explosion occurred shortly after 10:00 a.m. on Monday at 6100 SW 87th Avenue, south of Snapper Creek. The site, known as "Shop 2," is used for maintenance of fire trucks and other county vehicles.

According to an official statement from the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, officers evacuated the immediate area upon the discovery of significant smoke.

One individual was pronounced dead at the scene. Of the four injured, three were hospitalized: a Sheriff's Office lieutenant who was taken to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in stable condition, another person in critical but stable condition, and a third transported to a different medical facility. The fourth individual managed to get to medical care independently.

The Victim: Leomar Suris

Authorities have yet to officially confirm the deceased's identity, but the family of 36-year-old Leomar Suris from Hialeah identified him as the victim, according to Local 10 News reports.

Suris, who worked for a private gas company, was a father to two young children aged two and seven. His wife, Madiari Suris, tearfully shared, "He has two babies. And now I have to tell them they no longer have a dad."

"He was loved by many people. He had countless friends. He loved his job. He was devoted to his children, his daughter, and his son," she added. The family has started a GoFundMe page to assist with expenses.

The Cause: Underground Fuel Tanks

Ray Jadallah, Chief of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, confirmed teams found the upper structure destroyed with an active fire emanating from underground, alongside vapors emerging from below the surface.

"From what we've observed, it might involve an underground gasoline cell. There are three underground tanks. I believe some sort of work was being conducted, but we are currently investigating this," Jadallah stated.

On Wednesday, the damage remained evident, with damaged pumps cordoned off and the upper structure in ruins. Residents in nearby areas described the impact on their homes.

"It shook the entire neighborhood. Suddenly, there was a loud explosion behind the house, and for a moment, we felt the house was shaking and had no idea what was happening," one neighbor told Telemundo 51.

Another local resident concurred, "The house shook. It was a loud bang. We were scared because we had no idea what had happened."

Ongoing Investigation

Homicide detectives from the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office have taken over the investigation as per protocol for any unattended death. Concurrently, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and the Florida State Fire Marshal's Office are probing the exact cause of the explosion.

This is not the first time a fuel-related explosion has jolted the county. In May 2025, a propane gas leak in Florida City left ten injured, two critically, in an incident that also triggered the fire department's mass casualty protocol.
