EnvíosCuba.com, once a leading online platform for Cuban Americans to send money, food, and clothing to their families in Cuba, has announced it will cease operations. This decision comes amid the tightening of U.S. sanctions against the Cuban regime.

Over the weekend, the platform posted a brief notice on its website stating, "Due to circumstances beyond our control, our platform can no longer provide services," without offering further explanation.

The company assured that it will fulfill existing orders that have been approved and are in process, but it will not accept new service requests.

Impact of U.S. Sanctions on EnvíosCuba.com

EnvíosCuba.com reportedly operated as a commercial umbrella for several now-defunct stores: Puerto Envío, Electro Envío, Mercado, Carlos III, and Almacén-On. The platform was part of the electronic commerce network of CIMEX, a company that was integrated into GAESA in 2011. GAESA is a vast business conglomerate controlled by the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces, involved in various sectors such as hotels, retail stores, car rentals, and transportation. It has been a primary target of U.S. sanctions.

Connection to GAESA and Implications

CNN en Español reported insights from Emilio Morales, president of Havana Consulting Group, a Miami-based firm specializing in market strategies for Cuba. Morales explained that these platforms did not directly ship products from the U.S. Instead, they facilitated transactions for goods stored within GAESA's warehouses in Cuba.

The shutdown occurred just 10 days after the deadline set by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) for foreign companies to sever ties with GAESA, under the threat of exclusion from the U.S. financial system. This deadline resulted from Executive Order 14404, signed by Donald Trump on May 1, 2026, which imposed secondary sanctions on any foreign business engaged with GAESA or entities in which it holds a majority stake.

On June 4, the U.S. Treasury Department added Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel and other high-ranking officials to the list of sanctioned individuals and entities.

Morales foresees that the wave of closures will persist, stating, "The trend is for all of this to vanish because GAESA is behind it all."
