For the first time, Nicky Jam addressed the heated exchange between his son Joe Martin and Dominican media personality Santiago Matías, known as "Alofoke," during an interview on MoluscoTV with Puerto Rican host Jorge Pabón.
The controversy sparked from a viral clip where 20-year-old Joe Martin criticized the reality show "Planeta Alofoke" during a live stream.
Alofoke retorted sharply, stating, "The computer you're streaming on was bought by your dad, not earned by you. The microphone you're speaking into was bought by your dad, you didn’t buy it. When you go to the mall, people ask for photos because you’re Nicky Jam and Arcángel's son. At your age, I was already a legend, hustling hard."
This video amassed 1.6 million views on social media, igniting discussions in the Latin entertainment industry.
Nicky Jam shared that his son sought his advice before responding, yet Joe chose a different route than suggested: "My son has his own mind when it comes to his work. He asked me what to say after what was said to him, and although I gave him a lot of advice, he chose to say something entirely different."
Rather than being upset, the Puerto Rican singer saw the situation as an opportunity for his son: "Son, you made it big because you don’t have the followers that guy has, yet he mentioned you. You're just a kid who started from your room with a computer we bought and a little camera, and look, now you're viral."
Nevertheless, Nicky Jam clearly outlined his boundaries as a father: "If he disrespects anyone, that's when I step in and call the guy. If there's disrespect, it's my duty to defend my son, and I'll stand by him till the end."
Joe Martin is Nicky Jam's biological son, raised by Arcángel, who celebrated his 20th birthday with a heartfelt message, "Even though he doesn't share my blood, I love him as if he did," and even tattooed the young man's face.
The artist described his son as charismatic and fearless, proud that Joe turned his love for video games into a business: "I want him to grow, to do his thing. It was his idea, something he wanted to do, and he did it."
Nicky Jam also mentioned a pending face-to-face conversation with Alofoke: "I know Alofoke. I'll have my talk with him when I see him, just like that."
The interview took place in Puerto Rico, where Nicky Jam is promoting his concert "The Return Home" at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico, scheduled for Saturday, May 23, and Sunday, May 24. This marks his first solo performance on the island in over a decade, with both shows nearly sold out.
"You have to let your kids face their challenges and learn to solve their problems on their own because we won't always be there for them," Nicky Jam concluded.
