Wednesday, May 20, 2026 by Albert Rivera

Cuban author Zoé Valdés is set to unveil her book "Dignas Cubanas" this evening at the cultural venue Sentir Cubano in Little Havana, Miami, at 6 PM.

Valdés herself announced the book presentation through a video for CiberCuba, recorded at the airport as she traveled to South Florida. Her visit coincides with a significant date: May 20, the anniversary of Cuba's independence.

"Dignas Cubanas" marks the second installment in a series that began with "Hijas de Cuba," aiming to highlight the women who have fought for the island's freedom throughout history, with a particular focus on Cuban mothers.

The author candidly described the project: "Writing this book is painful. It doesn't aspire to be a literary masterpiece; it's simply a compilation."

Additionally, Valdés revealed she is working on a third volume titled "Glorias de Cuba," which she described as "a blend of both volumes, featuring another significant group of mothers, women, and grandmothers who have sacrificed for Cuba's freedom."

In the same video, Valdés shared that her book "Cuba y ahora la libertad" has just hit bookstores, published in Spain by Sekotia. The full title, "Cuba, y ahora la libertad. Propuestas para un cambio radical en una Cuba que ya no puede esperar," conveys a powerful message: "Without freedom, there will be no country. Without freedom, reconstruction is impossible."
