Shakira and Anitta Face Accusations of Song Imitation, TikTok Reacts: "Too Similar to Ignore"

Thursday, May 14, 2026 by Matthew Diaz

Shakira and Anitta have found themselves embroiled in an unexpected musical controversy after an Argentine duo publicly accused them of copying parts of their song "Choka Choka," which is one of the most discussed tracks from the Brazilian star’s latest album.

The artists Tushka and Rebebe, part of the independent project Sarao, released a TikTok video comparing "Choka Choka" with their single "Atómica," which debuted in December 2025. "Shakira and Anitta copied us," they stated bluntly at the beginning of the clip.

The duo highlighted similarities in the chorus, the rhythmic structure, the melodic cadence, and even the visual style used to promote both songs. However, it was ultimately their fans who first noticed the resemblance and encouraged them to address it publicly.

Despite the allegations, the Argentine artists refrained from directly criticizing the singers, instead pointing fingers at the creative team behind the song, which consists of over ten individuals, including producers and composers.

With a touch of humor, Sarao summed up the situation with a phrase that went viral: "The difference is our work has quality... but not money," they joked, showing an empty wallet.

Although "Atómica" is officially registered, the duo has no plans to take legal action since the melodies are not entirely identical. Instead, they seized the opportunity to ask for something unexpected: "They owe us a collaboration."

This controversy has also reignited past discussions surrounding Shakira, who has faced several accusations of plagiarism or musical similarities throughout her career. Tracks like "Hips Don’t Lie," "Waka Waka," and "La Bicicleta" have sparked debates previously, although none resulted in formal charges against the Colombian singer.

So far, neither Shakira nor Anitta have publicly responded to the viral video, but the debate on TikTok is already underway: is it mere inspiration, coincidence, or too similar to be a chance occurrence?
