The family of Yanet Soto Castellanos, the Cuban woman who vanished along with her newborn in Havana, has publicly addressed various rumors circulating on social media. As the distressing search for the young mother continues, her family remains without news for weeks.

“As a family, we want to clarify to everyone commenting without understanding the reasons for her absence,” stated Hipólito Scull, Yanet's uncle, in a message to journalist Alberto Arego.

Hipólito emphasized that the family is not blaming any particular entity but simply desires to locate Yanet to offer their assistance.

“We are not accusing any institution. Our only wish is to find her so we can help her as her family. As of now, no one has called to provide any information,” he stated.

He also noted that officers from the Zapata police station did reach out to the family on Tuesday to inquire if they had any updates, though they had nothing new to report on the case.

Background of Yanet's Journey

The family further clarified that Yanet is originally from the Isla de la Juventud and traveled to Havana in October 2025 due to a romantic relationship. She briefly returned to the Island but chose to go back to the capital alone.

“In November, she returned to the Island, spending only a few days with us. When we realized she wanted to go back to Havana by herself, we approached the local PNR seeking assistance,” Hipólito explained.

According to him, the police responded that Yanet was an adult and had committed no crime that would justify restricting her travel.

Addressing Misconceptions

The family member also refuted claims suggesting that Yanet had been abandoned by her loved ones.

“I want to make it clear that she was never left alone. She concealed her whereabouts and her pregnancy from us,” he insisted.

Before returning to Havana, Yanet left a four-year-old son on the Island, cared for by his father and grandmother. Over time, they lost all contact with her.

The news of Yanet's new baby came from a friend who saw her at the Ramón González Coro Gynecological-Obstetric Hospital and informed the family.

“We learned about her giving birth from a friend on the Island who spotted her at the hospital,” Hipólito recounted. “When we went there, she had already been discharged that same day.”

Since then, family and friends have launched an extensive social media campaign, appealing for public assistance to locate Yanet.
