An independent entrepreneur from Sancti Spíritus, known as Maikel, and owner of the food service Comidas Domicilio Sabor Cuban, generously donated 20 complimentary meals to the humanitarian initiative Hermanos de la Calle. This charitable project supports vulnerable individuals within the Cuban province.

The announcement was made by the project's administrators, Nelys Valdés and Yureibys Torresilla, who publicly expressed their heartfelt appreciation: "In challenging times, hearts like these are essential."

Torresilla confirmed the contribution in the comments section of the post: "Note that tomorrow, Maykel from Comidas Domicilio Sabor Cuban will provide 20 free meals."

The collective described the generous act as: "Cuban flavor, great seasoning, and lots of love for those who need it most."

The online community responded with a flood of supportive comments. "Many blessings for Maikel. May God reward him with abundant health and prosperity for all," wrote a user named Magdalena Hernández.

Another user, Tamara Bernal Delgado, added: "This work will not stop, it will not stop. May God always bless you."

Community Support and Impact

Hermanos de la Calle has been active in Sancti Spíritus since at least 2024, primarily funded by donations from Cubans living abroad. In November, the project provided a solidarity meal to over 400 individuals, and in December of the same year, they organized a dinner for around 90 vulnerable people.

In January 2025, Torresilla led the rescue of an elderly man left out in the cold in the Escribano neighborhood, and by April 2026, the group distributed condensed milk and coffee to homeless individuals, thanks to donations from Cubans in the United States.

Entrepreneurial Generosity Amidst Crisis

Maikel's donation comes amid a severe food crisis. A recent survey indicated that one in three Cuban households experienced hunger in 2025, with 33.9% of families reporting extreme food shortages.

Moreover, 80% of Cubans believe the current situation is worse than the Special Period of the 1990s, according to data from the Food Monitor Program released in March 2026.

In this environment, private entrepreneurs have emerged as essential supporters, filling gaps that the state fails to address. Business owners from other provinces have also provided humanitarian aid during emergencies, solidifying a trend of citizen solidarity in response to the crisis.

"The administration, Nelys Valdés and Yureibys Torresilla, will be eternally grateful for this compassionate gesture," the collective's post concluded.
