This weekend, FIFA disclosed the complete lineup of performers for the triple Opening Ceremonies of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to take place in Mexico, Canada, and the United States.
Gianni Infantino, the organization's president, made the announcement on Instagram over May 8 and 9, showcasing different promotional images for each host nation.
For the first time ever, FIFA is orchestrating multiple opening events across different countries for a single tournament. The overarching theme is a "shared heartbeat," aiming to unite fans from the three host nations through the power of soccer, music, and culture.
Mexico: Kicking Off an Unprecedented Celebration
The inaugural ceremony is slated for June 11 at Mexico City's Azteca Stadium, preceding the match between Mexico and South Africa.
Infantino remarked, "The FIFA World Cup is a moment shared globally, and it all begins with how we kick it off. Mexico will launch the Opening Ceremony like never before, in a celebration rich with sound, color, and meaning."
The confirmed lineup for Mexico's ceremony features a diverse array of artists: Alejandro Fernández, Belinda, and Maná (Mexico); Lila Downs and Los Ángeles Azules (Mexico); Danny Ocean (Venezuela); J Balvin (Colombia); and Tyla (South Africa).
The visual design will draw inspiration from the traditional art of papel picado.
Azteca Stadium will make history as the first venue to host three World Cups: 1970, 1986, and now 2026.
Canada: Embracing Identity and Diversity in Toronto
On June 12, Toronto's BMO Field will host Canada's ceremony before the home team faces Bosnia and Herzegovina.
FIFA has confirmed performers for the Toronto event, including Alanis Morissette, Alessia Cara, Jessie Reyez, Michael Bublé, Sanjoy, and William Prince (Canada); Elyanna (Palestinian-Chilean); Nora Fatehi (Canada, of Moroccan descent); and Vegedream (France), known for "Ramenez la coupe à la maison," the anthem of the French team at the 2018 World Cup.
The ceremony will feature a reinterpretation of the trophy inspired by mosaic art.
Los Angeles: The World's Entertainment Capital
Also on June 12, the Los Angeles Stadium will host the U.S. ceremony at 4:30 p.m., 90 minutes before the United States takes on Paraguay.
The stadium doors will open four hours earlier, offering live programming and activities.
Infantino emphasized that "the artist lineup reflects the cultural diversity of the United States and the vibrancy of its various diasporas."
The star-studded roster includes six global icons: Katy Perry and Future (USA); Anitta (Brazil); LISA (Thailand / BLACKPINK); Rema (Nigeria); and Tyla (South Africa), the only artist performing in two ceremonies.
FIFA noted that additional artists will be announced soon. The ceremony is being produced in collaboration with Balich Wonder Studio.
A Historic Tournament Resonating Loudly
The 2026 World Cup is set to be the largest in football history, featuring 48 teams, 104 matches, and 16 stadiums across three countries from June 11 to July 19.
Musically, Daddy Yankee released "Echo" on April 29 alongside Jamaican artist Shenseea, while Shakira revealed "Dai Dai," featuring Burna Boy, as the tournament's official song, scheduled for release on May 14.
The final is set for July 19 at New Jersey's MetLife Stadium.
