Bolito El Efi's Home Targeted by Burglars Hours After His Death in Havana: "Respect Is Gone"

Saturday, May 9, 2026 by Sophia Martinez

Just hours after the news broke about the passing of Bolito El Efi, two individuals attempted to burglarize the residence that the well-known influencer had purchased merely two months prior in the Playa neighborhood of Havana.

The incident was reported on Saturday by Daniel García, a neighbor of the property, who took to Facebook to share images of the suspects and to appeal to the public for their identification.

An Attempt Thwarted by an Alarm

According to García's account, the two burglars chose to act "in broad daylight," around 7 a.m., seizing the opportunity presented by the death of Óscar Portuondo—Bolito El Efi's real name—believing the home would be undefended.

"Unaware, these thieves were stopped short by the blaring alarm, which also woke me up around 7 a.m. They fled over the neighboring house's roof and exited through the patio of the clinic at 30 and 29, Playa," García noted in his post.

The culprits managed to escape without being caught. García shared images from the attempted break-in and urged those who could recognize them to contact him privately, promising to update the thread with more photos and videos.

"Not Even 24 Hours Had Passed Since the Event"

The neighbor's outrage was encapsulated in his own words: "There is no respect left for anything or anyone. They just saw the news and took advantage, thinking the house was unguarded. Not even 24 hours had passed since the event, and they were already showing their worst side."

Bolito El Efi tragically died in a traffic accident on Friday, May 8, in Havana, sparking a wave of mourning within Cuba's artistic community. The house in Playa, across from García's, had been purchased just two months earlier after Bolito's recent return from the United States, where he had lived for a long time.

A Farewell Marked by Grief and Outrage

During the robbery attempt, Havana was saying its goodbyes to Bolito El Efi with elements of Afro-Cuban religious traditions: green and yellow caps and turbans, and arrangements of white flowers.

Artists like Ja Rulay, Yandi Barnada, Payaso Por Ley, El Yonki, Yomil, and Oniel Bebeshito expressed their sorrow on social media. Yandi Barnada shared that just a day before Bolito's death, they were planning his trip to Cuba to reunite: "The last hug we shared felt divine. Just yesterday we were arranging everything for my arrival. I'm truly not ready for this."

The Surge in Crime as a Backdrop

This incident occurs amid an unprecedented surge in crime in Cuba. According to the Cuban Citizen Audit Observatory, 2,833 verified crimes were reported across the island in 2025, marking a 115% increase from 2024 and a 337% rise compared to 2023, with thefts leading the statistics with 1,536 cases, a 479% surge since 2023.

In the same Playa municipality, in April 2026, residents had to detain a suspected repeat thief themselves due to police inaction, a pattern frequently seen in Havana.

The Third Major Loss for Cuban Urban Movement

The death of Bolito El Efi is the third significant loss for the Cuban urban movement in under six years. El Dany passed away in July 2020 at 31 due to a cardiovascular condition, under circumstances Yomil described as medical negligence. El Taiger was murdered in Miami in October 2024 at the age of 37.

The attempted burglary at Bolito's home, mere hours after his death and before 24 hours had elapsed, adds another layer of collective outrage to a grief that was already shaking an entire generation. "There is no respect left for anything or anyone," García reiterated, a sentiment that resonated with those who followed the story on social media.
