A United States Secret Service agent was taken into custody early Monday morning in Miami after being caught engaging in lewd behavior in a hotel corridor, just hours after working security for a visit by President Donald Trump to a golf tournament in the city.
John Andrew Spillman, 33, hailing from Marble Falls, Texas, and stationed in Washington D.C., was apprehended by the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office at approximately 12:06 a.m. on Monday. He faces a charge of indecent exposure, according to the arrest report.
Hotel Incident Sparks Arrest
The incident unfolded at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Miami Airport & Convention Center, located at 711 Northwest 72nd Avenue in the Miami-Dade area.
Hotel guests reported that Spillman followed them from the lobby to the sixth floor of the building, according to the arrest report.
A woman recounted to the police that she was in the lobby when the suspect pursued her to her floor, prompting her to immediately enter her room out of fear for her safety.
From within her room, the victim observed Spillman engaging in inappropriate acts near her door. Hotel security responded to the call and found the agent "with his pants down" on the sixth floor, as reported by the New York Post.
Security Detail for Trump in Doral
Just hours before the incident, Spillman had finished his shift as part of a perimeter security team assigned to President Trump's visit to the PGA Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral, held that same Sunday.
Trump attended the final round with family members, watching from a tent near the 18th hole. The agent was off duty at the time of the incident, as confirmed by the Secret Service.
Recently, another individual was arrested at Trump National Doral following an incident at the same venue.
Secret Service Responds to Allegations
The head of the Secret Service's Uniformed Division, Richard Macauley, issued an official statement condemning Spillman's alleged conduct as unacceptable.
"The alleged behavior is unacceptable and starkly contrasts with the professionalism and integrity I demand from our personnel," stated Macauley, emphasizing that the agency is taking the matter "with the utmost seriousness." Spillman has been placed on administrative leave pending the criminal process and an internal investigation.
Spillman was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade with a bail set at $1,000. A public defender was assigned to him, and by Tuesday morning, he had posted bail and was nearing release.
Amid Heightened Scrutiny
This arrest occurs during a period of increased scrutiny for the Secret Service. Just ten days prior, Cole Tomas Allen shot at a Secret Service agent at a checkpoint at the Washington Hilton during the White House Correspondents' Dinner, where Trump was present. The agent survived thanks to his bulletproof vest, while Allen was charged with attempted assassination of the president.
The agency's history of scandals includes the 2012 Cartagena, Colombia incident, where 11 agents were suspended for hiring prostitutes before the Summit of the Americas with then-President Barack Obama, leading to dismissals and internal reforms.
A former Cuban employee of Trump National Doral has also been linked to controversies surrounding the venue, which is slated to host the G20 Summit in December 2026.
Spillman is scheduled to appear in court on May 27 to formally address the indecent exposure charge.
