The unfolding situation of Eddie Gattorno, a Cuban national detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after residing in the United States for over fifty years, remains fraught with uncertainty and familial concern.

Danielle Anguiano, Gattorno's daughter, recently shared an update on social media, revealing another transfer of her father, this time to the Winn Correctional Center in Winnfield, Louisiana. Here, he is expected to wait for at least three months before potential deportation to Mexico.

"He believes he'll be there for at least three months while awaiting deportation," Anguiano explained. She has been chronicling her father’s ordeal since his detention during a routine immigration check.

Anguiano stated that the conditions at the new facility do not offer any improvements. She asserted that the center is notorious for its "long history of abuse," heightening the family's anxiety. They had already raised concerns about the treatment Gattorno received at his previous detention center in Alabama.

Based on advice from others in similar situations, the family faces a constrained legal pathway. Anguiano noted that with an existing deportation order, their options for immediate legal action are virtually nonexistent.

"Only if 180 days pass and he's still detained, we might have the chance to contest it," she remarked.

In the meantime, she criticized the authorities for potentially detaining him for up to six months, despite no criminal act at the time of his arrest. "It's truly a broken system," she lamented.

The family also voiced their frustration over the inability to expedite his departure to Mexico. Although it would mean deportation, they view it as preferable given the current detention conditions.

Gattorno's case has sparked a significant response within the Cuban community. The prolonged U.S. residency, coupled with contrasts between his usual life—recently marked by his daughter's wedding—and his current plight, highlights ongoing criticisms of the immigration system’s practices and conditions.

For Danielle, the primary goal remains clear: securing her father's freedom as soon as possible, even if it means starting anew outside the country where he has spent most of his life.
