José Daniel Ferrer García, the long-standing leader of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU), expressed through a Facebook post that former President Donald Trump and Senator Marco Rubio are currently the foremost hope for the oppressed Cuban people.

Reacting to the recent attempt on Trump's life, Ferrer began his message, titled "Save Cuba," by thanking God for protecting Trump from the attack by Cole Thomas Allen, which occurred last Saturday at the White House Correspondents' Dinner.

"God protects his own," the Cuban dissident wrote, interpreting the president's survival as a divine sign.

Ferrer drew a biblical parallel in his message, comparing the plight of the Cuban people to the enslavement of the Hebrews in Egypt. He described the regime as "extremely inhumane," asserting that Cuban political prisoners "endure conditions akin to those of Nazi Germany's extermination camps."

Having been exiled from Cuba and arriving in Miami in October 2025, the former political prisoner emphasized the need for unity and discipline as essential conditions for achieving freedom. However, he cautioned that the responsibility doesn't solely lie with external allies.

"We have a great ally in the U.S. government today, and we should not squander the opportunity God has given us. We must be grateful to our best friends, but we cannot expect them to do everything for us," he stated.

Ferrer identified internal challenges as a threat as significant as the regime’s oppression: "The greatest obstacle to freedom is not always just the criminal oppressor... it can also be the lack of faith, lack of unity, apathy, the 'everyone for themselves' mentality, and uncontrolled egos."

The message marks a return to unwavering confidence in the Trump-Rubio alliance. Back in February, amid signs of potential easing of sanctions, Ferrer urged Cubans not to pin all hopes on the U.S. and to continue the struggle "with renewed strength."

In January, he suggested that Trump could instigate a transition in Cuba similar to Venezuela’s, and in February, he argued that a U.S. intervention should remove Miguel Díaz-Canel and Alejandro Castro Espín from power.

Ferrer concluded his publication with a call for collective action: "We trust in God; we are a brave people and have friends like Marco Rubio and Donald Trump. We are ready to achieve the Promised Freedom."
