Father Yuniel Alfonso Quintero, affectionately known as "Father Lolo," was released from the hospital this past Sunday following a positive turn in his health, according to an official statement from the Diocese of Cienfuegos issued earlier today.

The accident, which resulted in fractures to his hip and skull, took place on April 21 when the priest fell from the roof of a church in Cienfuegos.

In the immediate aftermath, he was rushed to the intensive care unit at Dr. Gustavo Aldereguía Lima General University Hospital, the leading medical facility in the city.

The update was provided by Father Manel Homar Toboso, the Diocese's Vicar General, who stated, "This morning, Father Yuniel Alfonso Quintero, known as 'Lolo,' has been discharged after showing favorable progress in his recovery."

According to the announcement, Father Lolo will continue his recovery process in Cienfuegos, adhering to the prescribed medical guidelines for full rehabilitation.

The Vicar General also noted that "visits will be restricted on medical advice until his recovery progresses further, to ensure his well-being."

Father Lolo's recovery saw gradual improvements throughout the week.

On April 23, two days after the fall, the Diocese reported his condition as hopeful, noting that he remained stable, had almost fully regained his memory, and was communicating clearly, with potential cranial trauma injuries being increasingly ruled out.

Subsequently, on April 24, he underwent a successful hip surgery, paving the way for his eventual discharge.

The specific reasons behind the fall have not been publicly disclosed. It remains unconfirmed whether Father Lolo was engaged in repair work on the roof at the time, a scenario not uncommon due to the chronic neglect affecting many Cuban churches.

This incident prompted a significant outpouring of support from Catholic faithful in Cuba, coinciding with a particularly sensitive period for the Church in the nation.

Just days earlier, on April 17, the influential figure of Cuban Catholicism, Bishop Emeritus Jorge Enrique Serpa Pérez, passed away in Havana at the age of 84. His life was marked by exile and a deep pastoral commitment.

The discharge announcement coincided with the Fourth Sunday of Easter, known as Good Shepherd Sunday. The Vicar General concluded the message with gratitude from Father Lolo, his family, and the Diocese: "In the name of Father Lolo himself, his family, and the Diocese of Cienfuegos, we are profoundly grateful for the constant and fervent prayers offered for his healing. God bless you all!"
