The Waldorf Astoria Hotel & Residences Miami is poised to make history in 2028 as Miami's inaugural supertall skyscraper. Standing at 100 stories and reaching 1,049 feet, this architectural marvel will permanently reshape the city's skyline.
In skyscraper terminology, a building is considered "supertall" if it exceeds 984 feet in height. By this measure, the Waldorf Astoria will not only leapfrog over Miami's previous tallest structures but also surpass the Bank of America Plaza in Atlanta—standing at 1,023 feet—as the tallest edifice in the southeastern United States, as reported by El Nuevo Herald.
Located at 300 Biscayne Boulevard in downtown Miami, the project is being spearheaded by PMG and features a design reminiscent of stacked blocks. By April 2026, construction had already surpassed the 60th floor of its planned 100, progressing at the impressive pace of approximately one floor every ten days.
The building will house 387 condominium units—over 90% of which are already sold—and 205 hotel rooms. Prices for these upscale residences start at $3.2 million, with the penthouse commanding an impressive $50 million.
However, the Waldorf Astoria won't stand alone in the Miami sky for long. PMG is also developing the Delano Residences Miami, a 985-foot tower at 400 Biscayne Boulevard, scheduled for completion in 2030. This tower will feature the city's first public observation deck.
Adding to this construction boom is the new global headquarters for Citadel, the investment firm led by Ken Griffin. This project will result in another 1,049-foot tower in Brickell, with construction commencing in early 2026. Other proposed supertall projects include One Bayfront Plaza, Regalia on the Bay, Miami Riverbridge, and the 888 Brickell by Dolce & Gabbana, each surpassing 1,000 feet.
The Okan Tower, developed by the Turkish firm Okan Group, is also progressing. It has reached its 50th floor out of a planned 70, and will stand at 902 feet, featuring a Hilton hotel and residential apartments.
Currently, Miami's tallest building is Panorama Tower in Brickell, with 85 stories and 868 feet in height. The city's skyline is already the third most populated with skyscrapers in the United States, following New York and Chicago.
Ryan Shear, managing partner of PMG, attributes this surge in construction to the growing demand for luxury real estate and Miami's aspirations to cement its status as a truly global city. "It's fantastic for the city. The more skyscrapers we have, the better."
