In a recent interview with journalist Enrique Santos, broadcast on Facebook and TU949 FM, Hialeah Mayor Brian Calvo expressed his belief that the United States may soon take decisive action against the leaders of the Cuban regime, such as Raúl Castro or Miguel Díaz-Canel. Calvo speculated that this action could manifest as either an arrest or a kinetic attack.

"I'm not sure if it will be an arrest or more like what happened in Iran, which was a kinetic strike, but I believe one of these actions is imminent and likely to occur in the coming weeks or months," he stated.

Potential Scenarios: Arrest or Kinetic Strike

Calvo outlined two specific potential outcomes: an arrest and extradition similar to the operation targeting Nicolás Maduro, who was apprehended by U.S. special forces in Caracas on January 3 and brought to New York to face federal charges, or a kinetic strike similar to the one carried out against Iran, which resulted in the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on February 28.

"Just as the government took action in Iran, thousands of miles away, why wouldn't it act 90 miles to the south?" Calvo questioned.

A Call for Unity and Comprehensive Change

The mayor emphasized the unprecedented proximity to change and urged the Cuban-American community to unite, reminding them of the 2026 election year and the political influence of Cubans in the United States. Calvo insisted that change in Cuba must be absolute: "It's not just about removing Díaz-Canel; it's about removing Díaz-Canel, the Castros, and all the communists in power, overhauling the government system, and introducing a new Constitution that demands free and democratic elections."

Efforts from Hialeah Against the Regime

Calvo disclosed ongoing efforts in Hialeah to combat the regime: "We are actively investigating businesses laundering money for the Cuban regime. Our Task Force is operational, and we've identified over 200 businesses under investigation."

This task force was established by executive order to scrutinize companies, licenses, and municipal contracts linked to the Cuban government and uncover potential financial irregularities.

Reflections on the Free Cuba Rally

Calvo's statements came shortly after the Free Cuba Rally on March 24 at Hialeah's Milander Park, which he organized and which drew over 8,500 attendees. He described the event as an emotional and hopeful pre-celebration of a soon-to-be-liberated Cuba.

The young mayor, at 27 the youngest in Hialeah's history, highlighted the city's preparations for the early days of a free Cuba, including plans to send medicines, food, and support for economic and institutional reconstruction.

"Hialeah may very well be home to a future president or senator at this moment," he remarked.

Calvo's predictions align with the Trump administration's sustained pressure on Havana, characterized by Executive Order 14380 declaring a national emergency, over 240 sanctions against Cuba, and recent statements hinting at potential further actions.

"How wonderful it would be, and it will be, and it will happen. I have hope. I never lose hope that we will live to see a free Cuba, where the people can democratically choose their future," Calvo concluded.
