Yaniuska López Sparks Debate with Her Return to Cuba Announcement

Yaniuska López, who has gained recognition on social media as La Cubanita, set off a firestorm of reactions this Thursday with an Instagram reel announcing her decision to move back to Cuba after residing in Angola. Her followers were quick to express their mixed feelings.

"I'm returning to Cuba. Everyone will ask why, and it's not easy to explain. I never thought I would say this, but yes, I'm going back to Cuba," Yaniuska declares at the beginning of the video, her voice filled with emotion, describing her heart as "divided."

In the nearly two-minute video, the content creator shares that emigrating was challenging, having endured tough times away from her family. She emphasizes that her choice was not a rational one but rather an emotional decision: "Some choices are made with the soul, not the mind. Returning doesn't mean failure; it means listening to what I truly need."

Yaniuska acknowledges leaving her father abroad—with a promise to reunite soon—and reveals that upon her return to Cuba, her partner, Jevis, surprised her with a welcoming gesture that left her "astonished and in love."

The video reaches its most candid moment when she anticipates criticism: "Yes, I know, Cuba is in bad shape, it's no secret, but I'm happy, and that's what matters most." She concludes with, "I know you'll have mixed opinions, but this is my life, and I want to live it this way."

She also notes the poor internet connection in Cuba, which will make it difficult for her to post videos regularly—a reality her followers are well aware of given the island's conditions.

"I'm leaving with lessons, experiences, and a stronger version of myself," Yaniuska concludes, making it clear that, for now, her heart has chosen its place.

The responses quickly polarized into two distinct camps. Supporters praised her bravery: "You always return to where you were happy. Many people wish they could do the same," one user commented. Another added, "Cuba is your home, and returning isn't easy, but it's your place, and no one has the right to judge."

However, criticisms were equally strong. "It's a failure, no matter how you justify it, returning to a country like Cuba is a failure," one person argued.
