Sandro Castro Describes Trump as "Unpredictable"

Sandro Castro, grandson of Fidel Castro, has characterized U.S. President Donald Trump as "an unpredictable individual" amidst rising tensions following recent statements from Washington regarding Cuba.

Castro expressed these views during an interview on the Colombian program Red+ Noticias, responding to Trump's warning that "Cuba is next" in a region already strained by U.S. pressure and the recent arrest of Nicolás Maduro on January 3.

In light of these developments, Castro candidly acknowledged the prevailing concerns. "Yes, it’s concerning, very concerning… there's a lot of tension, a lot of uncertainty… it’s a time to remain calm, deeply calm, and patient… to see what unfolds," he stated.

The young Castro emphasized the importance of preventing any escalation into conflict. "We all hope for no war, no violence, that things remain peaceful," he asserted.

Trump's Unpredictability and Its Implications

When evaluating Trump directly, Castro highlighted the volatile nature of the U.S. leader. "I think Trump is unpredictable… we've noticed he might threaten one day and then change his stance the next," Castro observed.

However, he tempered the perceived severity of these threats and urged caution in interpreting them. "I do think they should be seen as a threat, but not necessarily a war threat," he explained.

According to Castro, ongoing communication between the two nations could help ease tensions. "As long as there is dialogue and sovereignty, it reduces tensions regarding what we wish to avoid worldwide… not just in Cuba or the U.S. but everywhere: war and violence," he added.

A Personal Perspective and Hopes for Change

During the interview, Castro reiterated his distance from the power core in Cuba, as he had previously noted his lack of closeness with Raúl Castro. "As a young man, I live independently, focusing on my business ventures, and I can't comment further because it would be dishonest," he stated.

He also expressed hope for improved relations between Cuba and the U.S. that would benefit the people. "Our intention and will are for it to end favorably, my friend… it would be beneficial for Cubans," he said.

Despite the country's ongoing crisis, Castro affirmed his commitment to his homeland. "In Cuba, one hundred percent, I love being in my country… we’ve survived, faced hardships, but I love my country," he declared.

In a lighter vein, he even imagined a face-to-face meeting with Trump. "First, I’d offer him a traditional drink from my country, a Cuba libre or a mojito… and I would engage with him peacefully, so he truly understands my country, without aggression or threats," Castro concluded.
