On Wednesday evening at 9 PM Eastern Time, President Donald Trump is set to address the American public with what the White House has termed a significant update regarding the situation in Iran.

The announcement came from White House spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt, who posted on her official account on X: “Tune in: tomorrow night at 9 PM Eastern, President Trump will deliver a speech to the nation providing a crucial update on Iran.”

This speech is occurring amidst heightened diplomatic and military tensions, just five days before the scheduled end of the U.S. halt on attacks on Iranian energy facilities, currently set for April 6.

Since February 28, the U.S. and Israel have been conducting Operation Epic Fury, targeting over 5,000 sites in Iran, including nuclear facilities, air defense systems, and military infrastructure.

President Trump authorized this operation on February 27 while aboard Air Force One. The conflict’s initial days saw the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, and Trump declared that all of Iran's military leadership had been eliminated.

Since then, the president has been navigating between intense military pressure and diplomatic overtures. On March 27, he extended the pause on attacks against energy facilities by an additional ten days, stating that negotiations were “progressing well.”

By March 30, Trump claimed that Iran had complied with most of the demands laid out in Washington's 15-point plan, which calls for the complete dismantling of its nuclear program, cessation of uranium enrichment, and an end to support for allied groups in the region.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed yesterday that peace talks with Iran are indeed active and “gathering momentum.”

Nevertheless, Iran’s response has been mixed: Tehran admitted to reviewing U.S. points through mediators, yet its military publicly denied any agreement, with Ali Shamkhani, an advisor to the late Khamenei, dismissing Trump’s control over Iran’s nuclear program as “fantasy.”

Additionally, China and Pakistan have put forward a five-point plan to de-escalate the conflict, with Pakistan coordinating with Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt as additional mediators.

Tonight’s speech could potentially introduce a peace agreement, the resumption of attacks, or further diplomatic extensions, marking one of the most critical moments in the conflict since it began.
