Renowned Cuban musician Eliades Ochoa recently shared his concerns regarding the ongoing situation in Cuba, adopting a tone that diverges from the image he has long projected from the island.
In an interview with La Vanguardia, Ochoa emphasized his emotional connection to his homeland, while also noting that he currently resides abroad.
"I would love to live in Santiago de Cuba, but I have my apartment in Madrid due to work commitments. I'm almost European now. I'm getting calls from all over Europe, reaping the rewards of many years in the industry with my tour 'Estoy como nunca'," he explained.

"Everything is deteriorated there," Ochoa remarked, "and all Cubans who can do so are sending money to relatives."
The musician acknowledged the crisis affecting daily life and placed the blame squarely on "those in power," saying they are doing everything wrong, leaving the "people to suffer."
"Our island, so beautiful, fertile, and musical... its people deserve happiness too," he added, in a reflection that mixes nostalgia with a belated and detached assessment of Cuba's reality.
