A violent robbery recently occurred near the Tropicana cabaret in Santiago de Cuba, as several individuals forcefully entered food and beverage warehouses, making off with a substantial amount of goods.

According to reports by social communicator Yosmany Mayeta Labrada on Facebook, the perpetrators acted swiftly and in an organized manner, leaving two storage areas within the establishment nearly empty.

During the incident, a security guard attempted to confront the robbers but was injured in the hand with a bladed weapon during the struggle, highlighting the level of violence used.

There have also been reports of theft in nearby areas, including the stealing of animals, which underscores the growing sense of insecurity and suggests possible coordinated actions across different locations.

This event adds to a series of recent incidents that illustrate the decline in safety across the country amidst the economic crisis and shortages of essential goods.

In recent years, Cuba has experienced a heightened sense of insecurity, particularly impacting economically significant centers. As a result of these robberies, several security guards have sustained injuries.

For instance, in August, authorities arrested six men involved in the murder of a security guard and the near-fatal assault of another during a robbery at an agricultural cooperative in Contramaestre, Santiago de Cuba.

The Ministry of the Interior (Minint) announced in a statement published by the provincial newspaper that on the night of Monday, August 4th, unidentified individuals broke into the Fidel Domenech Rizo Basic Unit of Cooperative Production (UBPC) located in Pueblo Nuevo, Baire, with the intent to steal sheep.

In January, the Provincial Court of Santiago de Cuba handed down prison sentences ranging from 28 to 30 years to those responsible for the murder of a security guard in Nuevo Mundo, Dos Caminos, on June 13, 2024.
