The Havana Electric Company has announced that the National Electroenergetic System has been restored in the capital. However, they acknowledged that blackouts continue due to a generation shortfall affecting the nation.

According to an official statement released at 5:30 p.m., authorities claimed that essential services for the population have been restored, yet residential areas still experience power outages.

In a subsequent message, the entity clarified that hospitals and main water supply sources, among other "essential services," now have power. Nonetheless, electrical disruptions continue across all sectors due to insufficient generation capacity.

Ongoing Challenges in Power Restoration Efforts

The company indicated that they are progressively working to restore circuits, though they cautioned that the situation remains unstable. This means that the population will face ongoing interruptions in their electric service.

The disparity between the initial announcement and the later clarification highlights the challenges faced by the electrical system amidst an energy crisis that leaves wide areas of the country with frequent blackouts.

Authorities have stated they will keep the public informed via official channels and a dedicated phone service as efforts to stabilize the capital’s system continue.

Efforts to Synchronize Power Units Amidst Crisis

Similarly, the Cuban Electric Union (UNE) reported the synchronization of Unit 4 at the CTE Carlos Manuel de Céspedes and another unit at the CTE Antonio Guiteras into the system.

This Saturday, the UNE reported a new widespread blackout following the complete disconnection of the national system at 6:38 p.m. It was the second total system failure in the same week, amid a severe energy crisis driven by outdated power plants, fuel shortages, and frequent breakdowns, which result in daily blackouts across much of the country.

Additionally, the situation has been worsened by restrictions on fuel supply.
