A Cuban woman has reported a forceful police operation at her home in Morón, Ciego de Ávila, where law enforcement abruptly detained a young visitor from Havana. This incident adds to the tensions in the city following recent protests over power outages and shortages.
In a video shared with journalist Mario J. Pentón from Martí Noticias, the woman recounted how multiple officers surrounded her home at midday, creating a scene reminiscent of a crime investigation, before arresting the young man identified as Josuam Naranjo, a resident of Havana.
"They surrounded my house... they approached from the neighbor's house across the street and the one next door. They entered, inciting people to rebel against them," the woman described in her account.
According to her, the young man was having lunch when the officers barged into the home. "They snatched the plate from his hand and took him away. They didn't even let him put on his sandals," she stated.
The woman asserted that family members have visited the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) station in an attempt to get information about his whereabouts, but so far, they haven't received any details or been allowed to bring him clothes.
"From my house, they've gone to the PNR to ask for information or to at least deliver a change of clothes," she explained.
In the video, she pleaded for help in spreading the word to the family of the detained young man. "I need his family to know about him," she urged, aware of the potential risks of making this public.
"I know this could bring me a lot of trouble. I have my children in Cuba and understand the consequences, but I'm tired of the injustice," she expressed.
The arrest occurred amid heightened tensions in Morón following Friday night's protests, where residents took to the streets to demonstrate against prolonged blackouts, food shortages, and the severe economic crisis plaguing the nation.
According to the state-run media outlet Invasor, at least five individuals were arrested during these demonstrations, which included the burning of furniture, documents, and regime symbols in front of the municipal headquarters of the Communist Party.
Social media has been flooded with numerous videos capturing chants of "Freedom!" and the sound of banging pots as groups of residents marched through various streets in the municipality.
So far, Cuban authorities have not publicly disclosed the names of the detainees or any potential charges against them.
