Cuban Regime Implements Surveillance in State Facilities Amid Morón Protests

In response to recent protests in Morón, local authorities have ramped up surveillance and control measures in state-run facilities throughout the area. The unrest, which unfolded in the early hours of Saturday, has prompted a series of directives aimed at maintaining order.

The state's directives call for intensified worker surveillance, immediate updates to staff directories, and a requirement that all employees remain reachable. Additionally, there is an emphasis on maintaining informational discipline and ensuring a coordinated response to potential acts of vandalism.

These measures are outlined in a document titled “Surveillance and Response Clarification,” issued by the Municipal Directorate of Territorial Planning and Urbanism in Morón. It stresses that these actions are in line with the objectives set by the Party and Government, highlighting the necessity for the immediate accessibility of personnel.

A notable component of these measures includes the activation of a "worker guard," which is described as an enhanced surveillance effort at "critical points and resources within the entity." This involves mobilizing staff internally to safeguard properties and state assets amid the heightened tensions following the demonstrations.

The directive also enforces a strict “informational discipline.” It mandates that any incidents be promptly reported and that rumors be suppressed, an indication of the government's attempt to control the flow of information within institutions in the aftermath of the city's events.

Furthermore, the document calls for a “unified response” to any “vandal acts,” emphasizing the importance of organization and steadfastness.

The directive concludes with a political and operational slogan: “Organized and ready to defend the tranquility of our center.”

These actions were put into place after a night of protests in Morón, where countless individuals took to the streets to voice their grievances over power outages, food shortages, and the ongoing economic crisis.

Videos circulating on social media platforms depict a large gathering of people marching through the town's streets at night, chanting “Freedom!” and banging on pots and pans.

In one recording, a voice urges more residents to join the movement: “Morón and Ciego de Ávila are out on the streets demanding freedom.”

The protest continued through various parts of the city, eventually approaching a police unit. Throughout the broadcast, complaints about hunger, lack of electricity, and enduring hardships can be heard.

One protester is heard declaring, “The people are tired of hunger, hard work, need, and no electricity... Enough is enough!” with rallying cries to fellow residents: “And you, from Morón, if you're watching, join us!” alongside the slogan “Homeland and Life.”

The nighttime march was illuminated by cell phone flashlights and motorcycle lights, further emphasizing the dire economic and energy crisis gripping Cuba, characterized by power cuts exceeding 20 hours a day in some provinces, ongoing food shortages, and rampant inflation.

Comments from social media users underscore the widespread frustration with the country's situation.

“Enough is enough, there's no food, no power, no water,” wrote a user named Sulen López, while another comment lamented, “How much longer, we've endured too long.”
