Republican Congressman from Florida, Carlos A. Giménez, declared on Friday that the United States will not invest in Cuba unless significant political changes occur on the island. He dismissed rumors about a potential economic opening without shifts in the Cuban political system.
“There will be NO U.S. investment in Cuba unless there are SIGNIFICANT political changes on the island,” Giménez wrote on X.
In the same message, he emphasized that the Cuban regime needs the United States, not the other way around, and criticized media outlets for allegedly spreading rumors initiated by Havana.
“The regime needs us; we don’t need them. It’s a shame that some media echo the ‘rumors’ spread by the regime,” the Cuban-American legislator added.
This statement aligns with a broader political and economic pressure strategy that Giménez has publicly supported, in line with President Donald Trump.

Prior to his message on X, Giménez told Fox News that Washington's strategy is putting the Cuban government in a position of extreme vulnerability.

The Republican representative attributed this situation to the pressure exerted by Trump against Havana. “President Trump’s pressure is pushing the Castro regime to the brink!” he asserted.

In another public statement, he expressed that his commitment to Cuban freedom is not just a political stance but “the work of my life.”
He recounted his emigration from the island following the rise of the communist regime and emphasized his firsthand understanding of the cost of losing a nation to tyranny.
In his comments, the congressman has also praised the current U.S. administration's foreign policy towards authoritarian regimes.
He stated that under the leadership of Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Washington is taking a firm stand against what he termed “the axis of oppression” threatening the hemisphere and the world.
Giménez affirmed that the U.S. message is clear: “it stands firmly with the people.”
The legislator also committed to continuing his efforts in Congress to promote political changes not just in Cuba, but also in Venezuela and Iran.
