Republican Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart has made it clear that the United States is not involved in any discussions about granting immunity to members of the Cuban regime, including Raúl Castro and the current leader Miguel Díaz-Canel.

During an interview with Telemundo 51, the Cuban-American legislator dismissed reports circulating in some media outlets that suggested possible agreements with Havana.

"An article that has been covered by various news outlets using anonymous sources has reported things that are simply not true," remarked Díaz-Balart.

While the congressman acknowledged that discussions have occurred with individuals close to Raúl Castro, he emphasized that these interactions should not be construed as negotiations.

"These are not negotiations. They are similar to the discussions that the president and others had with the Maduro regime," he clarified.

Díaz-Balart also drew parallels between these talks and the previous exchanges the Trump administration had with the Iranian government.

When asked if these discussions might eventually lead to stronger actions against the Cuban regime, the congressman stressed that former President Trump always kept all options open.

"President Trump always keeps all his options on the table," he asserted.

The congressman further mentioned that he maintains regular communication with high-level officials within the U.S. administration and expressed confidence that the Cuban regime would not outlast the current presidential term.

"I am convinced that the tyranny in Havana will not survive President Trump's term," he stated.

Regarding additional measures toward Cuba, Díaz-Balart explained that the White House's immediate priority is addressing international issues concerning Iran.

According to the legislator, once progress is made on that front, the U.S. administration might focus more intensely on the situation in Cuba.
