The discovery of two deceased fetuses near a trash bin shocked residents of Artemisa on Thursday, prompting authorities to launch an investigation to unravel the events surrounding this distressing incident.

The state-run newspaper, El Artemiseño, reported that the bodies were found at approximately 4:45 AM at the intersection of 40th and 33rd streets, a location commonly referred to as Don Quijote's corner, situated in the heart of the provincial capital.

Sanitation workers, responsible for waste collection in the area, stumbled upon a yellow nylon bag placed next to a blue trash container, initially mistaking it for a dead animal. However, as they attempted to lift the bundle to load it onto their garbage cart, it partially opened, revealing the lifeless form of a fetus inside.

Yoanis Díaz Velázquez, head of Licons, the company handling solid waste collection in that part of the city, stated that the workers refrained from further disturbing the package and immediately contacted the authorities to secure the scene.

Shortly thereafter, officials arrived to conduct a formal examination of the remains. During this process, it became evident that the package contained not one, but two fetuses. Eduardo Acosta Mora, the local mayor of Artemisa, confirmed this finding.

The bodies have been transported to the Institute of Legal Medicine in San Antonio de los Baños for further forensic analysis.

The incident has stirred emotions among locals and passersby who gathered at the scene as the investigation unfolded. Similar cases have surfaced on social media from Artemisa and other provinces in Cuba.

Authorities have noted that the investigation is ongoing as they seek to identify the circumstances leading to this tragic event.
