Thursday, March 5, 2026 by Mia Dominguez

A warehouse erupted in flames on Thursday morning in northwest Miami-Dade, prompting a significant response from firefighters and sending large plumes of smoke visible from nearby areas.

Classified as a fourth-alarm fire, the blaze ignited at a 3PL logistics warehouse typically used for recycling and storage, located at 20600 NW 47th Ave. This site is just outside the Miami Gardens city limits and about half a mile south of the county line, positioned west of Hard Rock Stadium and close to the Florida Turnpike.

Local 10 reported that news helicopters were flying over the scene shortly after 11:00 a.m., as emergency crews from Miami-Dade, Miami Gardens, and Miramar worked to control the flames.

Facebook user Weiner Alexander Martínez shared a video showing the fire generating thick smoke columns visible from afar. Authorities warned that a large quantity of chemicals was burning inside the facility, which could render the smoke toxic.

Furthermore, several propane tanks inside the warehouse heightened the risks during firefighting efforts.

Firefighters indicated that all available hydrants and water sources in the vicinity are being utilized to battle the intense fire.

A warehouse employee shared with local media that he feels "lucky to be alive" and mentioned that he believes everyone managed to evacuate the building as the flames began to spread.

Nearby is the Dr. Frederica S. Wilson Skyway Elementary School in Miami Gardens. According to County Commissioner Oliver Gilbert, the school was empty and under construction, so no students or staff were present at the time of the fire.

Another nearby school, Somerset Academy in Miramar, reported that while smoke is visible from the campus, students were moved inside, and the educational center faces no direct threat.

Miami Gardens police have advised drivers to avoid the area between Northwest 47th Avenue and Northwest 206th Street while emergency teams continue their operations. No injuries have been reported so far, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
